How to Protect Yourself
The following measures are recommended in order to help protect your accounts.
Create a unique and strong password
The greater the variety of characters in your password, the better.
Use the entire keyboard
Not just the letters and characters you use or see most often.
Change your password periodically
Every 30-60 days is recommended. To change your password, sign into your account, click on security tab, change password.
Keep your browser and operating system up to date
New versions and updates often include important security enhancements and can be downloaded on the vendor’s website.
Update your anti-virus software regularly in order to keep your computer secure.
Anti-virus software needs frequent updates to guard against new viruses, so be sure to download updates as soon as they are available. Some anti-virus software checks for virus updates each time you connect to the Internet.
Use a personal firewall
Many internet service providers (ISPs) offer the personal firewall feature. The firewall protects your home computer against unauthorized access by hackers.
Always check your browser URL
Always ensure that the URL of the website you are accessing is correct. Be very careful of slight misspellings or variations to an unknown or fraudulent URL.
Example:
http://www.mybank.com (Correct URL)
http://www.mybamk.com (Incorrect URL)
Many fraudulent websites can look like legitimate websites. These types of sites are designed to deceive the user to think that they are accessing and sending personal information to a reliable website.
Always ensure that you are in a secure area before sending confidential information to a website
A secure area is an area where all information exchanged between your computer and the website is cryptographed and cannot be accessed by other people over the internet.
A padlock in the status bar of your web browser teels you that you are in a secure area:
If you want more details about the website s security, double-click the padlock image. The web browser will open a pop-up window with detailed information.
Open e-mails only when you know the sender
Some e-mails may contain attachments that can threaten to your computer s security. Be sure you know the sender and the content of each message before executing attached files.
Keep track of your account access history
Check your account access history often, looking for unusual or suspicious access. For example: invalid or multiple login attempts, logins originated from an unknown country, multiple login attempts.
Public or shared computers
If possible, avoid using public or third parties computers (cyber cafés or a friend s computer) to access your SafraLink account.
Beware of fraudulent e-mails
Safra National Bank will never email you asking for personal information or information about your account.
What is “Phishing”?
Phishing is a high-tech scam that uses spam email or internet pop-up messages to attempt to deceive you into disclosing your credit card numbers, bank information, Social Security number, passwords, and/or other sensitive information. Phishing emails imitate correspondence from legitimate senders to entice people to share passwords or credit card numbers.
How to report Phishing:
We suggest reporting phishing e-mails or spoofed Websites as follows:
Forward the e-mail to reportphishing@antiphishing.org
Forward the e-mail to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov
Forward the e-mail to the “abuse” e-mail address at the company that is being spoofed
(e.g., spoof@ebay.com).
Notify the Internet Crime Complaint Center of the FBI by filing a complaint on their Website:
www.ic3.gov.
When forwarding spoofed messages, always include the original e-mail with its original header information intact.
If you become a victim of a Phishing Scam and have given out your credit, debit, account, or ATM card information, report the incident to the card issuer or bank as quickly as possible
